Horsehair pottery is formed and allowed to dry. The decorative technique of applying Terra Sigillata, a fine-partical clay, is then used. This creates a smooth silky surface after burnishing. Pots are then bisque fired to become more resilient and are now ready to be fired again. Susan uses her Raku kiln and fires up to 1,100 degrees F. The pots are removed one at a time. Horsehair is applied or draped on the pot's hot surface creating unusual and unique carbon-trapped designs. Once brushed of excess hair, and while still warm, a coat of butcher's wax is applied to heighten the burnished surface. This pottery will enhance any home and is most popular due to its intriguing firing technique.

Please note: Decorative use only. No water.
